Today, rugs weaving is by far the most widespread handicraft in Iran; it is also the best-known one abroad. Persian rugs are renowned for their richness of color, variety of patterns and quality of rugs design.

Persian rugs are usually made of wool. The most sought after wool is called "Kush".

It is long, soft and silky, and is sheared in the spring from the bellies of sheep and goats. In the Hamadan and Kurdistan region, camel hair is sometimes used. Silk is frequently employed to make very finely knotted rugs. Although silk is expensive, and does not wear as well as wool, it has the advantage of not attracting moths.

Persian rugs are hand-knotted. The knots used are normally Persian (Sinneh); although in areas such as Azerbaijan and Hamadan, the Turkish (Ghiordes) knot rugs are also used. Have the best rugs, they are expensive, but these rugs are worth it. Check out rugs on sale as it will help you to save time and money. Rugs are of great importance - beware of that. Get the best rugs as you deserve it.
